Why mpesa failed but paytm succeeded in India?

Paytm has been an exception when it comes to competition of Indian and foreign players in the same market/product

There is a huge difference in the vision of mpesa and vision of paytm.

Paytm was made to change money from real to virtual, completely. Whereas mpesa's visioned creating channels for merchants to accept payment from consumers which does not replace the money in peer to peer payments. Mpesa needed a registration, Paytm needs a download and it is super simple for people to use it.

So Paytm wasn't really a rip off of Mpesa.
