Why its unfair to always fall for people who are fair

In India we have an obsession with being fair, so much that we often ignore the mental level/ IQ of a person an only go after her fair skin. This though was probably brought in place by the early British colonies saying they were meant to be the rulers because they have fair skin.

The best selling skin whitening cream in India is called Fair And Lovely! That in itself tells you everything you need to do about Indian attitudes towards skin colour.

Actually we have to see this issue in two different perspectives. White skin denotes beauty? Its quite natural among humans to seek or crave towards beauty. But the question is among white/black/brown skin which denotes beauty. It is the stereotype created by different mode of mediums that white skin is the only indicator of fairness. But the reality is looking beautiful is the combination of face structure, charmness and overall physique which would be complemented by skin complexion. All these factors together creates an attraction towards them. So only a fair skin will not help. Even this definition of beauty can be rooted out, if we start to argue whether beauty is measured based on looks or character or heart etc etc.

People with white skin are intelligent, rich, and superior than others? This is the most dangerous stereotype created among Indians which kept us as slave for more than a century. And the sad part is this mindset continues till today even within Indian people themselves. This attitude creates a sense of inferiority, fear, self doubt among dark skinned people. Another worst part is dark skinned people are treated in society with less respect in par with the white skinned people. The myth that white skinned people are educated, rich, dignified, loyal etc should be broken among Indian people. Intensive awareness should be created among people to respect and admire others only based on character, knowledge, good deeds, talent or at least in terms of humanity.

This is the attitude which we need to inculcate in our future generation. My 6 year old nephew refused to sit beside his classmate in their school bus because he was dark in color. He does not drink tea fearing that he'll become dark. This type of mindset that too of a boy who is just 6 years of age will not let our country to come out of this vicious cycle. A person can't lead his whole life properly only because his wife is fair. The most important thing needed for a happy family life is having wife with whom he have good understanding, who is well cultured, well educated and well behaved

Your explanation is very impractical. In real life this adjectives like intellectual, hard worker don't matter much vis a vis other physical aspect like fair skin, good personality and all. I know this from personal experience. I am very fair but my friend isn't and as I walk with him,or get into train, bus I get attention but he doesn't even though he has good personality, also he is an IIT'an and very intelligent than me. And when he tells me that he doesn't like walking along with me mockingly,I feel bad. I am not boasting but this is the fact. Same things happen with fair girls, even being less qualified vis a vis more qualified girls they get better marriage proposals.

Tell me one thing would you marry a handicap who is also a hard working individual but doesn't have hands? Won't you consider other aspects of life like how's he gonna play with your offspring

I am glad that more people are talking about it and making others more aware. Indian film industry is famous for preferring fair actors more than the darker shade. Darker ones are discriminated, or rather say not

being appreciated by the public. Bollywood is infamous outside india for this reason. Our south Indian film industry is much more peculiar. Here the actresses are not only fair but rather milky white with non regional and non representative features, while the actors are representative of the region. This disparity is bizarre. The proliferation of fairness creams with big film stars endorsing the ads proliferates this. The fairness cream industry runs in billions. Even the males are now using it a lot.

Even the foreign visitors from the west tell about them being treated as celebrities only due to their white skin and people showering

praises for their skin. People gather around white girls just for the sake of selfies. Watch travel vlogs of foreigners visiting india and their comments on it.

Sadly years of British colonial rule is stamped in the psychology of Indian minds. Unless and until weed out such things from our culture we cannot be called liberated from such psychological colonisation. We should be proud of ourselves whatever we are. skin does not determines the value of a person, the resourcefulness is determined by the brain of the person. Unfortunately in india untouchability and caste divide is being practiced from millennials. its the worst form of racism. untouchability being abolished from the law books is still followed in some rural areas. caste divide is still the focal point in elections. even the mightiest of indian leaders were very apprehensive of abolishing the caste system altogether.
