India-Pakistan

S.N Raman , learning, hope to be more aware :) PhD schola Sep, 24 2016

Which side is Russia on?

"The two-week drill, which begins tomorrow, indicates that both sides want to 'broaden defense and military-technical cooperation', a Pakistani envoy said."

India raise objection and Russia sopped it earlier(before the war. Now Russia said that India cannot have a problem with this.

Everybody is on the side of their own self interest. In this cut throat world, no one would fight India's battles for it.

The worst kind of public discourse is to build expectations of a gullible population around a revenge which never really happens. Perhaps the denouement would be a video game where we can bomb Lahore and kill the Sharifs and hear some clapping from behind. Saner voices shall always be drowned out.

Exactly. There are no permanent friends in International arena, just bunch of countries which have similar interests.

Akshat Rao , Junior Scientist at BARC, Trying Awaremonk. Sep, 24 2016

Similar interest or intent is what is Modi calling for. Full fight against terrorism. But this stand by Russia is a big setback, without international backing we will again end up sitting and pleading Pakistan to behave itself

Rohit pande , Have a view on many things but happy to thras Sep, 24 2016

One cant measure one's strength through endorsement of others. We seem to be bracketing ourselves with Pakistan in this tutu main main. Others shall watch with either mild interest or sometimes irritation

Akshat Rao , Junior Scientist at BARC, Trying Awaremonk. Sep, 24 2016

War in this era won't be fought alone. Unless its a kargil like war where Pakistan attacked, India just pushed to the extent of defense. If India attacks its not going to be the same way. It will go the the extent of making allies and making enemies. Hence other endorsement is important

Rohit pande , Have a view on many things but happy to thras Sep, 24 2016

Agree, but why make so much noise then, when the realization is that nothing can be done on the ground.

Rajat Jain , IITian, [email protected] Sep, 24 2016

and the moment India starts to gain momentum, it will start getting support too, fortunately Pakistan's only asset is enmity with India to attract China, nothing else.

Rohit pande , Have a view on many things but happy to thras Sep, 24 2016

Yes, but don't you think only China matters

and if India really had to do anything, it should have done it within the first 15 minutes

Aditya Singh , Starting up. Just learnt before launch its ca Sep, 24 2016

China matter, yes we are under estimating India-China economic relation, when we say China can open a second front.

Ahmed Azab , Interested in history, Political science and Sep, 24 2016

Why did India not react in 15 minutes then?

Akshat Rao , Junior Scientist at BARC, Trying Awaremonk. Sep, 24 2016

Because there is a very slight difference between courage and madness.

If we got to war we have a lot to lose even if we win, Pakistan has nothing to lose if even they lose.

Ahmed Azab , Interested in history, Political science and Sep, 24 2016

Ignorance is bliss, and you are blessed

S.N Raman , learning, hope to be more aware :) PhD schola Sep, 24 2016

We don't do personal attacks here. You might want to go to twitter and abuse people there.

Awaremonk can we mark opinions as spam?

Rohit pande , Have a view on many things but happy to thras Sep, 24 2016

We disagree/ challenge / tear apart arguments / say the ridiculous but lets not abuse others or even get personal. Thats what sets us apart from the animal noise all around us. All of us together - the Awaremonk community have to set the standards. And as we seem to be growing fast, we now have to maintain a very strong vigil to maintain this key value

Maybe there should be an option to submit for review and even before we delete, we can red-mark some of the things which border on the objectionable.

Rohit, you just equated my opinion to animal noise and you guys are saying I am the one doing personal attacks. Akshat was ignorant in thinking that we had the courage to reply back in 15 minutes and I just countered that argument.

But one can't be a 15 year old kid who gets upset by improper use of words.

Lets call this even here, its distracting us from the issue.

I didn't at all. Wasn't commenting at all on the specific thread. But just on the need to avoid personal attacks, hope you agree over there.

In fact I agree, it wasn't really a personal attack, but only point is that if someone feels it is, one should be able to refer it to an ombudsman. Hope we can agree here.

I do. In fact, we have had difference of opinions on other discussions too and we have graciously disagreed in the past and presented our opinion.

Rohit pande , Have a view on many things but happy to thras Sep, 24 2016

Coming back to the original thread, this whole business of using TV theatrics to dictate discourse is creating a very shallow society. It would seriously harm us all. And current hijackers of social media make it worse. truth is completely replaced with illusion.

Malik , An engineer turned into a student of conflict Sep, 24 2016

Media has led me to question everything I always believed in.

Nehru was fraud, Gandhi was bad, Barkha isn't a true journolist, Mother Teresa was a thug, being liberal is bad, war is our only option etc. Media and internet has ruined whatever I learned as a kid

S.N Raman , learning, hope to be more aware :) PhD schola Sep, 24 2016

This is such a nice opinion.

I am not a left wingy, but I never understood how is being liberal a bad thing

Who is wrong our text books, or the media? Or everything is a shade of grey?

Ahmed Azab , Interested in history, Political science and Sep, 24 2016

You just made a personal remark, too.

Akshat Rao , Junior Scientist at BARC, Trying Awaremonk. Sep, 24 2016

Interesting, this is recursion. I am out of this though :D

Rohit pande , Have a view on many things but happy to thras Sep, 24 2016

Because the national psyche is not built for that, and the military is also emasculated under years of political leadership. Besides its more fun to watch Arnab tearing Pakistan into 4 with his theatrical nationalism in TV studios. The sad part is not that we cant do it, but that we are trying to make such a noise while not doing it. Diplomatic coercion is fine and can be tried gradually, but why make such a noise then about revenge. Why are we feeding people a false narrative with no denouement

"why make such a noise then about revenge. " 19 soldiers died sir. You might see this before questioning the noise about revenge:

Its a slap on our face and noise has to be made so that it creates the required pressure for govt. to act and not hide the matter under the banner of Kadi ninda.

Akshat Rao , Junior Scientist at BARC, Trying Awaremonk. Sep, 24 2016

"Besides its more fun to watch Arnab tearing Pakistan into 4 with his theatrical nationalism in TV studios." Its funny how from a news studio he has convinced a nation, that we are going for a war, like right now.

Rajat Jain , IITian, [email protected] Sep, 24 2016

What if we go to a war with Pakistan? - AwareMonk Read this AMA with Maj. Gen Bakshi clearly points out that India is ready to fight alone too. It just needs political will to go ahead.
