We shouldn't have very high hopes with Pogba, reason : Ravel Morrison and Terry Cooke

Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard admits Paul Pogba and Ravel Morrison should still be playing their football at Old Trafford. All three players came through the United ranks and enjoyed success together as youngsters when they won the FA Youth Cup in 2011. However, Pogba and Ravel went their separate ways with both currently playing their football in Italy with the latter also having a spell at West Ham.

The situation with Morrison and Pogba, shows how football has moved on and how Utd didnt move with it. Many at Utd still believed the draw of the club and the disciplinary powers of Sir Alex was enough to keep young players at the club, these 2 amongst others didnt see that, they had other people telling them Utd were holding them back or in the case of Morrison that he didnt have to work hard. Morrison it seems still believes that the world owes him a living.

This seems to be a problem for exceptional players who bubble up through the ranks. These stupid words like "natural" dont help*. Almost nothing that Ravel Morrison does is natural, its the result of years upon years of playing football at the expense of everything else. Regardless of that he is probably under the illusion that he is a natural talent who was simply born to play football. When things got tough, he bottled it because he assumed that if he couldnt make the step up instantly then he could never do it, because these things are a natural occurrence.

I dont think they are comparable. There wasnt ever any sign that Adu had an ego problem. It was more that he was horrendously over-promoted and had all manner of expectations put onto him. That in itself was a product of Americas desire to really push its best and brightest into the spotlight just so they could show the world "Look, we have super talent too!", despite the fact that really good players were indeed coming through the system, but doing it the regular way; playing their way through academies into the first team, slowly making a name for themselves then finally getting scouted by international clubs, then continuing to climb the ladder. Dempsey, Howard, McBride and, to a lesser degree, the likes of Stuart Holden and Eddie Lewis, all did it this way. Adu and, to a degree, Altidore were pushed way faster and ended up failing.

Morrison has been in Italy since early 2015 and according to former Lazio manager Stefano Pioli cant speak Italian beyond ciao. Simone Inzaghi is the new manager however and seems to have more faith in him so I think he will get more chances to start for them this season. Pogba struggled for Juve until about December last season, with Vidal and Pirlo not there to protect him and the long periods in matches where he goes missing, he couldnt dictate Juves play. Only getting better when Marchisio returned and Khedira started. Juves march to the title started with Buffon and the BBC and ran all the way through to Dybala. PP wasnt the sole reason, not even close to it.
