Fact is that India's REAL GDP grew at 8.5% pa, in 10 years of MMS Govt, and in last two years, its grown at close top 5.5% on a comparative basis( the base having been changed last year). Also, why should an Indian be happy when he is worst off today, just because a Pakistani, or Brazilian or Colombian, egyptian is worse off than he is?

Despite strong women rights laws we have not been able to end the discrimination against women. What more is needed?

In my 20 years of working in this field many girls and women still do not have equal opportunities to realize rights recognized by law. In India women are not entitled to own property or inherit land. Social exclusion, honour killings, female genital mutilation, trafficking, restricted mobility and early marriage among others, deny the right to health to women and girls and increase illness and death throughout the life-course. There cannot be a sustainable progress unless we fix failures in health systems and society so that girls and women enjoy equal access to health information and services, education, employment and political positions.

The US elections is not the only elections that should be on your radar. UN might and should have a women Secretary General

Women have taken great strides in the last century and occupied significant positions in the global arena- Angela Merkel, Christine Lagarde, Dilma Rouseff, Mary Jo White, just to name a few. UN itself convened the historic Conference at Beijing in 1995 to achieve equality, development and peace and declared 1975 as 1976-85 as International Womens Year and decade. However, participation of women in all aspects of life continues to be abysmal. A Report by UN itself in 1980 has stated that women constitute 1/2 of worlds population, perform nearly 2/3rd of work hours but receive 1/10th of worlds income and own less than 1/100th of worlds property. The representation in international politics is even worse. Women are exploited physically, emotionally, sexually, economically, politically and in every way possible, especially in the underdeveloped countries. The UN cannot achieve its goals of human rights, equality and justice” and international peace if half of the worlds population faces discriminated. It needs a female and feminist Chairperson to understand, empathise and solve women problems, especially on health, exploitation, SDGs, economic and political participation and overall women empowerment. Studies have also suggested that females prefer peace and co-operation as compared to men which is a critical goal for the UN.

Despite Bommai judgment the misuse of Article 356 is taking place, the Judiciary can and should stop its misuse

It has been observed that Union government has not allowed floor test of Harish Rawats led Congress government in Uttarakhand, claiming that there has been failure of constitutional machinery because 9 MLAs of ruling party did not supported Appropriation bill in the state assembly as well as charges of horse trading emerged due to sting video on incumbent chief minister Harish Rawat. The High court in its judgment while restoring the state government has questioned the hastiness of union government to impose governors rule and not allowing the floor test to happen. The matter is in apex court and supreme court has asked union government, the constitutional validity of questioning Speakers decision regarding passing of Appropriation bill. The tendency of Union government to destabilize other party state governments which stared from 1959 against communist government of Kerela and in the recent time , the centre goverment has interfered in Arunanchal Pradesh and Uttarakhand by imposing Governors rule.

English in todays global integrated world plays a very important role and India as the Back office of the world the importance of English is unspeakable. English has played a very important role in creating an perception about Indians and its diaspora. the argument that English can be threatening to other languages is very valid . just for an example when the present form of Italy came into existence in the early 18th century only 3% of its population used to speak Italian language now almost all its population speaks Italian. The points is that in a dynamic cultural transition ther is every possibility of some language taking front seat. we cannot look at the problem only in present context we have to look at this problem in historic manner. it is also evident from Anthropological studies around the globe that societies have a mobility towards the most widely used language and the language considered of prominence. it is a slow phenomena . you can observe that a substantial population today wants to admit their wards to English medium schools.

Google's applications still take manual decisions. We are not ready for AI decisions

I think Apples strategy here is a little bit off, its not that algorithms are poor at selecting music that I would enjoy, its that they are poor at discovering new music that I would like to hear before the algorithm has a chance to interpret and iterate through multiple rounds of categorisation/quantification. There are multiple ways of fingerprinting/analysing/clustering the existing discography; at least the popular stuff, the problem is the newly released music. If Apple partnered with DJs that focused on their locality/region whilst give some air time to the up-and-comers more broadly it would tie Apples radio efforts much more closely with discovery, creating a more intimate experience for listeners and providing a new discovery avenue for artists (an aspect that is sorely lacking in spotify, and pretty much most streaming services). Local curation would also provide the initial fingerprint/signal into algorithmic curation. Such a model would add to the richness of the music sector, allowing local scenes to come through the radio/discovery channels; to swing back away from the "top 20 hits" model that some of these services seem to enforce.

Our education planners need to read these stories: "On hire: MBA graduates for Rs 10,000 per month"

Lack of enrollment and unequal access of quality education, former can be addressed as due to failure of policy implementation such as to establish enough number education institutions in the country while latter is due to discrimination or untouchability. The statistics shows lower class Childrens I.e. it can be defined in terms of economic or income, caste, sex.upper classes have access while Lower classes not due to commercial intent of private institutions, less number quality government institutions. It can be solved by expanding and strengthening the govt or private aided institutions, while ensuring good amount of restrictions on private, also by establishing poor friendly institutions like in Australia and Canada. The issue of quality education due to improper physical infrastructures, poor academic reforms, non quality text books and less importance to regional languages. It can be improved by ensuring good amount student to teacher ratios, including academicians in policy making and importance to regional language in Japan also giving authority to institutions to appoint to heads of institutions and executive bodies. For an education of relevance policy such as national skill development and ministry of skill development were to make education relevance to economic and society and also reformation in UGC. when these issues address in great detail, education will become the stepping stone to eliminate obscurantism, religious fanaticism, violence, superstition and fatalism. Thus sanitizing childrens about the problems of undemocratic practices and uphold constitutional values such as integrity, justice and fraternity.

The Olympics will just add burden to Brazils economic crisis

The impeachment of the president Dilma Rouself was lawful, and so it was not a coup strict sense. However, it was officially justified because of her supposed wrongdoings in which the majority of governors and mayors in Brazil did, do and will do without punishment, and therefore this justification was highly doubtful. Her vice president would be an accomplice of Dilma, and he could not replace her. It was also supposed because of corruption scandal, but the majority of the politicians in the Brazilian congress is corrupt, so it was not because of corruption either. What was it? The best definition is cynical “velvet coup”: Her political enemies had power enough to use and interpret the laws to remove her, and to use the same laws to keep them in power. It was supported mainly by a naïve middle class that rightly went to the streets to protests against corruption, but without knowledge of the political machinery to understand that the main problem with corruption was not with Dilma but with the politicians who wanted to remove her. The same middle class will not go to the streets to remove the politicians in the congress. Brazil is now a country where the laws are freely interpreted according to the power of those involved, the power is in the hands of corrupt politicians and the president has no legitimacy, a kind of cleptocracy without chief.

On paper, electrified villages — in reality, darkness

There are some things that this Government has done which I really love. Rural Electrification was one such item. I have had the app and followed it every other week. Piyush Goyal has been an inspirational presence in the cabinet and this was a great story! Then came this. "...of the 7,000-plus villages said to be electrified last year, 3,604 villages were assigned the status, “Village found electrified during the survey.”.."
