A true poll of the shifting national mood

From euphoria to doomsday prediction, the mood is wide and swinging. Depending on one's evolving perception ( and this is evolving fast with the changing picture on cash delivery to the economy and imagination of how the new economy could work and what more steps are to follow ), one can take different positions in the continuum

1. The boldest reform of India which would herald the country back to "sone ki chidiya" with rule of law and tax paying citizens and businesses working together to build this great nation under Modiji's vision

2. A game changing step which needs to be implemented properly, not allowing people to go scot free and making sure the pain for the common man is minimized. And govt spending needs to be pumped to cover the gaps in already falling private investment. A social security net and reduced taxation could aid the transition.

3. A bold move which can go awry, in terms of GDP contraction, job losses and destruction of small businesses which were surviving on the borders of taxation

4. A national tragedy which reminds one of the stupid decision taken years ago by Tughlak which caused untold hardship to the citizens.

How do we use this platform to create a poll on this and try to make it as representative as we can

For India, can jobless growth be called growth or just accounting jugglery ?

The construction sector created 18 million jobs, but a major chunk was in the form of casual labour. On the other hand, services contributed only 3.5 million jobs, while the manufacturing sector actually lost 5 million jobs. While corporate India suffers from a chronic shortage of high and medium skilled people, estimates suggest that India will create a surplus of 30 million low skilled unemployed youngsters by the turn of the current decade. Further, reduction in self-employment (by a whopping 25 million in five years) is beginning to affect entrepreneurship -the lifeline of future job creation.

Poverty can be addressed by robust agricultural system. Our agriculture is rainfed. The over dependence of uncertain nature leads to suffering of the farmers. The drought and floods mostly impact the poor farmers. The average age of farmers are increasing and the new generation are not willing to join agriculture due to high risk involved without yielding high income.Fragmentation of land due to increase in population has further aggravated the problem. There is low productivity due to traditional way of agriculture. These situation causes poverty in our country as almost 50% of our population is dependent on this. The suicide of farmers are facilitation of their miserable condition.
Urbanisation is the hope of new generation.Youths have aspiration of living a standard life. They get education, training to get job in urban area.Urban area expands very fast leading to boost in economic activity. It generates job opportunity. The infrastructural work, industry and jobs in services sector have potential to absorb unemployed population.Urban life also gives better opportunity to access government services like education, health. It helps them to come out of vicious circle of poverty. At the same time immigration also causes expansion of slum areas. The deprivation of necessary needs like water, sanitation and space. This social divide also leads to crime. So urban development should be inclusive.

Having a strong industrial policy is the answer to job creation?

The future has to be found, and shaped, by enterprises and policymakers learning together, faster and better than they have done before. Old ideas about industries and about how industrial policy is made will have to be unlearnt. Unlearning habits of thought, and unlearning ideas that are ingrained in institutions, is never easy. More than ever, sound industrial policy must be a systematic process for learning and moving together—moving by feeling the stones underfoot. The future of India will depend on how fast leaders of institutions, in government and in the productive sectors, learn and apply a new approach for a new ‘jobs policy’ for India.

Is Marriage as beneficial for women as for men?

Landmark research by University College London, the London School of Economics and The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine found that single women do not suffer the same negative health effects as unmarried men.

In fact, middle aged women who had never married had virtually the same chance of developing metabolic syndrome – a combination of diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity - as married women.

I guess that is so true for the typical arranged marriages in Indo-Pak region. Women are happy, working, studying, doing what they want to and living their lives until....one day the guy's family sends in "RISHTA" and all her independence is perished. She will have to ask her husband-to-be for everything she has to do, and not only that she has to be answerable to mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law etc etc.

Is Real Madrid nothing with Ronaldo?

Dortmund can win the group if Real continue to toil like this. Even in the games they won, they weren't really anywhere near their best. Zizou has got to ensure they improve. I fancy Dortmund to beat Real and that would really up the ante. It'll be a great match.
As for Barca, they won well. They look a class above Real once again this season. And ATLETI should win tomorrow and push to within a couple points of the top. 3rd place and unbeaten will satisfy Cholo Simeone if they can win tomorrow at home. They're title contenders once again and they've got a great squad.

There were around a 1000 suicides in Prison in the last 20 years. We have failed to safe guard a fully lawful institution

The rate of prison deaths in India has increased significantly over the last two decades. A lot of these is attributed to the ill equipped prison department which is unable to ensure the safety and security of the inmates. We need to take certain measures to minimize and prevent custodial deaths.

A manager's role in football is over-hyped.

With Mourinho, Guardiola, Klopp, Conte and Wenger the Premier League has without a doubt become the most competitive and watchable league in the world. But when you see the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Dortmund during their games, the gulf in class is almost embarrassing. The Premier League teams are nowhere close to that level. With such teams being managed by far less experienced managers such as Luis Enrique, Zidane and Tuchel, one can't help but wonder how big really is the role of a manager? Maybe it's just having a good enough personality to act as an enabler between great players in a squad.

Exploitation of resources in Tibet will affect India badly in the future. Nationalist Indians should fight for Tibet to protect their own interest.

Supporting Tibet is in India's interest. The Chinese have been building dams over rivers that flow down to India; openly supporting Pakistan and opposing India in international forums.

By bringing Tibet to limelight like Balochistan, India can play a masterstroke.

Pakistan knows that international pressure won't mean much till China is with them. And that's all that India can do #UriAttack

This shows how successful and efficient Pak is against India. Our PM tried giving a stern warning, but it has only resulted in multiple blows on the Indian borders and J&K valley. How will the Indian leadership respond? Condemn, point fingers at Pak & heat up the diplomatic channels with accusations and perhaps flag the issue with the west, who I am sure have least respect on India, from the way we handled Mumbai blasts. Mishaps continue on Indian side with no positive responses from Indian political system.

Steve Jobs, a Zen Buddhist, chose to manufacture his products in China- the country that inflicted horrific crimes in Tibet

Jobs' belief was in Buddhism, not in Tibet or China. Buddhism is an idea. A teaching that is beyond restrictions such as country borders and conflicts. In front of an idea as mature and powerful such as Buddhism, this probably seemed small.

Dictatorship failed because of people who came to power not because it is flawed as a concept.

Usually when I hear about a dictator I think of someone that's power hungry and always ends up hurting the people in some way. Has there ever been a dictator that was somewhat nice or made really good decisions that benefited the people?

"Saudi Arabia and Iran accuse each other of not really being Muslim". 'Religion above all' mentality has to be challenged.

'Religion above all' not a islam-centered phenomenon but at the core nature of all the religions. Although its obnoxiously prominent in current interpretation of Islam. This school of thought have just placed some muslims against the world but, is also now placing muslims against muslims. Protagonists are trying to convey a message that one is either a protagonist of god or one is a kafir. Its high time Muslims stand up to their own biggest enemies, that is (mis)interpreters of Islam.
