This assumes constant growth, an assumption that may simply not be possible. Just because we gain some jobs in a new industry does not necessitate we replace the old jobs in equal or greater amounts. In fact, the only way we would ever increase the absolute amount of necessary labor is through constant growth. Otherwise ,what would be the point of developing new technology? It would simply shift labor time from one industry to another without decreasing the overall amount of labor required
