Who deserves the Capital Punishment? Is it Unethical and Inhuman?

The concept of punishment has a few elements which i would like to place before giving a commentary, 1. Reformation- a criminal must understand in solitary or with a group of people that what he has done is wrong and that is the reason why he is kept out of the system.it should be a Process where a person feels that what he has done is wrong. 2.self awareness-only humans have the power to be what they wish to be and hence the justice system gives an opportunity for projecting a persons self awareness. 3. threat to society- this is the most important need which has made punishing or keeping them in confinement a necessary step. As far as Capital punishment is considered it only fulfills one canon out of the three i have proposed, though i do not claim all the 3 points are the only criteria. The concept of Capital punishment still holds water with the changing dynamics of society and increased vulnerability we require a tool which could deal with such situations which are grave in nature (the so called rarest of rare). Again Capital punishment is not that tool coz it limits the scope of reformation, we need to look at the question from reformatory angle rather than a limited scope of judicial and ethical view.

When warnings were issued since October, why did govt. not take any step to solve the draught problem. Who's accountability ?

Drought conditions have prevailed for the past two years yet we have no concrete measures in place, to least of all, keep the death toll in check. Yes, we need concerted efforts on part of administration but we definitely need water conservation to become an ingrained habit in all. Indiscriminate use of precious water, especially in water-poor regions, needs to socialized as a practice to be avoided. We cannot rely on Govt to put efforts when we on our level waste water, when in abundance. Local participation is key to improving availability. Even in this age our country's economy relies on monsoon for economic growth. Is this the way to becoming a world leader?

What happened in NIT Srinagar is an isolated situation or it shows the overwhelming real situation in Kashmir?

It's a shame that a sport that has been a binding agent across the country is today the catalyst behind this unfortunate incident in NIT Srinagar. It only shows how we have become averse to opinions and choices that our contrary to ours. Maybe the bigger problem lies in how for a few seconds of Fame or for filling some front page columns the media is fanning air on the issue. Soon the political class will get embroiled in the mess and no one will bother about the precious time lost of the students in the institution. For years NIT has functioned effectively and delivered some of the brightest minds of the country, despite such events. I feel the question should really be if we are ready to let someone put our education and careers at stake just for some mileage before the election season.

Is the sedition Law really 'Defected' ?

You make two important points in the edit regarding sedition. First, the law commission of 1971 wanted to expand the scope of sedition by including disaffection towards the Constitution, Parliament, the government and legislatures of the States, and the administration of justice. This is excellent and must be considered. In my opinion, disaffection towards government must be replaced with disaffection towards the nation. The term disaffection must also be defined. For example, criticizing a court verdict or the conduct of the MPs or MLAs etc. cannot become seditious. Second, your suggestion of another law commission recommendation. There is no need as the principles involved are fundamental and non-ephemeral in nature that the 1971 recommendation are valid forever. On your advice to scrap sedition altogether, why this urge to scrap all laws in a huge democratic country prone to foreign machinations, violence and fissiparous tendencies?

Is feminism a misused term or the need of the hour?

Even today a woman in India is not given the opportunity to have a voice, independent from others. The pending legislation on increased representation to women in Indian legislatures is pending since time immemorial particularly due to concerns that the power will be used by the males in their family, is proof enough. Until this independent voice is recognized and given its due, feminism will continue to be a need of the hour.

The disconnect between GDP and job growth. One of the most important issue to be addressed by the policy makers. Government has been addressing the issue but is enough done to tackle this humongous problem

The figures project that if India does not tackle the jobless growth menace then it will not be far away when the disgruntled, able-bodied, job seekers will start rioting, in order to get some benefits from the consistent economic growth. It is quintessential that the masterstroke of the NDA government, in the form of Skill India along with Make In India is properly implemented. Enough awareness needs to be generated in order to gather public support for these policies and the government must ensure that the educators are knowledgeable to impart skills needed to atleast meet the short term growth and skill gap. Obviously a lot needs to be done If the country wishes to capitalize on the demographic dividend in the long run (eg revamp education in the country) but for the short term and desperate measures that a responsible govt could have taken, the present agenda of skilling India with the required and demanded skill sets seems to be in the right direction and well thought of.

#UnionBudget2016: Let's come to the point. Will the Budget revive the economy?

The government plan to providing 100% electrification by 1st May, 2018 in rural sector continues. This poses incredible opportunity for the renewable sector and to boost rural economy. Also coal cess has been doubled to Rs. 400 per ton, thereby, creating the resources to achieve 30-35% carbon emissions reduction target and also 175GW of renewables target by 2022 in which Solar is the highest.

Siachen at 20,000 Feet, A Battleground For Security And Power. Is it worth risking the lives of our troops?

An issue which can be dealt with sensible diplomatic skills and the right attitude has been stretched on for far too long. The costs of lives lost at the glacier are so much more than we care to factor in. Yes it will not be easy to reach a solution but in a civilized international relation that India and Pakistan intend to form, such an arduous border post must die out immediately. This is not intended to imply cession of territory or to trivialize the losses of our brave soldiers. We must save the precious lives of our border knights in future.

Later this week, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will celebrate its first anniversary at the helm in Delhi. Is the idea of AAP still alive?

You may not like AAP but you definitely cannot ignore it. The concept of AAP might seem to be swaying but it is not completely off track and slight adjustments to less blame-gaming and more proactive work in the direction towards the interests of Delhi's public will help keep it alive. The pillars on which AAP stands, anti-corruption and pro-poor are here to stay and as long as they capitalize on these, it has nothing to fear. It uses the right tactics to pull the heartstrings of mango people and their support will help them sail through the term and perhaps more.

It is High Time to Discard the Pernicious Myth of India’s Medieval Muslim ‘Villains’

Major attacks on temples during the medieval times were to benefit from the massive economies of the temples, something like today's gold monetization scheme of the Govt wherein they intend to target the gold lying idle in temples. There are barely any evidences of these dated attacks bearing a religious hue.

Juvenile convict in Delhi gang rape case to walk free on Sunday

While I don't completely agree with the present situation yet we cannot expect public outrage to be the sole reason for the Judiciary to deviate from law. We, as the collective society, must force our representatives to give more teeth to the law while ensuring that we remember to keep the good alive in all of us. Stringent laws have not shown better results. It is the way we are socialized that makes a bigger impact.
