Manmohan has lost all his economist credibility post his speech against demonetisation

By the way after the GDP measure was revised at market prices and new categories were added the last year of congress showed a GDP growth of 6.9% and not 6.1% (year 2014 ending march). After 2 years of BJP the GDP is just about 7.2% . Most of this increase has come after raising indirect taxes and low oil prices. There is no real growth. Come this with service tax raised at 15% this will further bump up GDP . again this is purely nominal growth and not real . All BJP schemes are copied from congress. Once they objected to aadhar and now they love it so much to make it a money bill. We need educated , progressive, secular leaders in the govt and not egoistic , muscular, authoritarian, belligerent , poor knowledge led decision making process leaders. I suggest the author should stop writing and importantly stop playing cheap opportunistic politics

Can Trump be the right president for the Businesses and Entrepreneurs?

Trump isn't a professional businessman in the sense of someone like Mitt Romney. Romney was a haircut in a suit, but his business experience was of the running a boardroom and making policy decisions type. Trump's not a professional businessman, he's a professional huckster. He's a used car salesman who also owns a chain of inexplicably successful coin operated car washes where the thing being cleaned is his money. He's essentially naked personal greed personified, and when you personify greed it looks an awful lot like a con man. The only difference between the used car salesman and Trump is that the financial shell game is being done with much bigger shells, and the ill fitting suit is more expensive now.

AMA with Dr. JayaPrakash Narayan

Do you have any views on whether there is a real solution to the Kashmir issue? Do you think that issue will die its natural death in another 10-15 years, or it needs a force majeure like demolition of 370, along with killing AFSPA for it to break the logjam?

Is Russia powerful enough to re-create a Cold War like situation?

The only reason for a Cold war not to occur is supreme dominancy. In camparision of Russia, US has dominated the global institutions due to its historic superiority. How

Its highly unlikely that Russia can do anything now, Nato forces are much stronger. Futher is nothing left after USSR disintegration. The recent hegemonic incident of Crimea and Ukraine has turn allies into bitter enemies. Moreso, the defence fund spend by US is more than $500B much more than Russia.

China's relationship with UK 'at risk' over Hinkley Point delay

The international community must also be concerned about the clamping down on any kind of press freedom and independent journalism. Also at the kidnapping and terrorising of booksellers from Hong Kong. It is tragic how the Chinese government is terrorising, intimidating and threatening its own people. These kind of signals cannot but raise concerns at what kind of China the world will see in future, but first and foremost Britain should be building infrastructure projects which will utilise British manufacturing, expertise and technology.Should the British government choose to further risk (after Hwa Wei) its own security and that of the British people instead of protecting Britains security and supporting British industry it would be a gross and contemptible betrayal of its people and their safety and security and wellbeing. China would not betray its security so why should it expect other countries to betray their security and people. Perhaps if China did not terrorise its own people and its neighbours round the South China Sea the world would be more trusting and welcoming of it. Lately Chinas behaviour, actions and intimidation, including of its own people have only created fear and distrust.

Year on Year the Earth overshoot day is coming in August and its a matter of shame!

Overshoot Day is basically this - except it's not just for fish but for all of nature's bounties put together. Each year, there's a finite amount of ecological goods and services that we can consume. If we don't overshoot i.e. if the Overshoot Day falls on 31 December, then we are a truly sustainable society.
