India will have over 372 million citizens above the age of 60 by 2050, yet there is no way to cater for their proper care or stop the abuse they go through

It may not be denied that increasing age may lead to decrease in working efficiency, hence an impediment to growth. So, it may help some but not in broad terms. However, Schemes like 'Anubhav' launched by the central govt. where the retired citizens will advise as to how the work should be done, is a welcome step towards self-dependence, plus the development schemes of the day should be implemented with utmost sincerity so that India, by 2050, becomes more able to take care of it's veterans.

Good dictator is better than a bad democratic setup

Look to Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore to see an effective modern dictator. He oversaw the transformation of Singapore from a 3rd world backwater to a 1st world economic powerhouse in the span of a single generation.

Critics claim that LKY abused the legal system, and he is known for his favorite technique of squashing dissenting people and organizations by suing them into bankruptcy. Yew also initiated a population control program aimed at reducing the pressures of providing for a growing population. The program sought to encourage couples to 'stop after two' children through rebates and other economic and social incentives. Corporal punishment in the form of caning for a wide range of offenses is another criticism of his regime.

Yew's accomplishments include attracting foreign direct investment in Singapore, and encouraging multi national manufacturers to set up shop in country. This brought a rising standard of living to the people of Singapore, low unemployment and a reputation as one of the worlds finest workshops.

Self employment used to be a fad, now it’s fading

Self employed can be of 2 types i feel, you either start of a company and get in the business of being called an entrepreneur or be a consultant/ freelancer. I have been a freelancer since long now, and it has been an upward trend ever since in terms of salaries to the point where I would be cutting my income by 40-50% taking a permanent role. As long as you set money aside for downtime and pay into a pension religiously it is so far superior to being an employee I can't even imagine dropping down into a permanent job again. I had a two month break this year which is impossible for the employees.

President should have more power than just being a titular head

Niharika had posted

President in India has become just a ceremonial head functioning like a rubber stamp. He is said to have no discretionary powers of his own and acts on advice of council

What made framers of Indian constitution to retain the colonial legacy of ceremonial head of state for independent India is the non-partisan character of the office. The president is the first person on whose name international treaties were convened & whose signature makes a bill an act. Thus he is a person above party politics & his approval to a legislation leaves no room for conflict,on the allegation of partisanship. The post was not given discretionary powers to avoid formation of two parallel power blocks, which may lead to instability.

Open source revolution is here and we should be a part of it

Revolutions are authoritarian, genocidal and in the end fruitless. What is being talked about is an attempt to make radical change happen outside the normal democratic processes in countries with democratic governments. No, that is not how anything of the sort can be done since the public are totally suspicious of, and rightly, is anything that smacks of self appointed authoritarian leaders who know what is best for them so well they dont have to ask. If you want radical change in the society, there is a way to do it. Get elected, start a political party like AAP.

Why did China declare a ceasefire from Arunachal in 1962?

China took advantage of the Cuban crisis to launch the attack. That was neither the reason nor the cause of attack. That was just choosing the time. China did not attack India to hold territory. They had already gained territory militarily what ever they wanted between 1959 and 1962 prior to attacking India. Attack on India had other politico military purposes. They also achieved those politico military aims. Before Indian Army could regroup and counter attack , the Peoples Liberation Army withdrew, even in Ladakh beyond their claimed positions or claimed Line.
