How effective will the black money surgical strike be

Almost everyone who doesn't have black money is praising the move, but is this sustainable? How do we make sure the issue with black money does not rise up? From what it seems the existing black money might come to a halt but i fail to see the far sightedness in this

This move tackles the means to corrupt practices but cause of corruption is also needed to be addressed. The issue needs an attitude change among the masses at the cognitive as well as the behavioral level. Strict adherence to establishing the principle of rule of law, speedy and efficient justice delivery and most importantly uplifting ethical standards of the society remains the way forward.

It would make the money accumulated by the tax defaulters useless ,which has been previously used for illicit purposes like giving bribes , financing terror etc. This move would create anxiety among the corrupt people in paying and receiving black money especially in the real estate sector that have become the nerve center for unaccounted money .

Giving bribes is as illicit as receiving them, and as long as that mutual magnetism remains, its not going away

Real estate was definitely becoming a non-value added vocation and its slide over last 2-3 years, shall get further accelerated, but its far from going to die or even become affordable to the vast majority of people. In fact, the 2000 new note may facilitate it further.

There challenge was to bring black money into the market not burn it.

This will give unprecedented dip to the economy of the country. Because this black money kept on coming to mainstream in different formats.

Coupled with GST and better technology and tracking in general, it would improve the money which enters the formal system for sure.

But to think that it would remove corruption or that no more stashing would happen is at beast naive.

Of course it can spur more foreign investments and what final impact would it have on the economy shall play itself out

But the short term impact on jobs can hardly be positive unless the government spurs them through their own investments.

Its clear that more cash shall kiss the banking system but would the cash remain there or just rotate out ?

Isn't it too much wishful thinking that the issues of productivity and buying power ( except maybe of the govt through higher taxes ) can be solved through this action ?

Also wasnt there a bigger chunk of black money in swiss accounts than in Indian households

Totally agree. Also how will it curb corruption further. It might affect what already had happened but increased currency counts will play the same role.

Unless there really is a chip on this note.
