Could the knock on RBIs credibility impair their capability to protect the Rupee

RBI is silent, with Shakitkanta Das speaking on their behalf most of the time. Its also not clear whether the RBI Board is functioning independently on demonetization.

But given the Trump wind, can they protect the rupee or is it in for a big fall now ?

If it was to perform independently then Raghuram Rajan would have been there.

Rupee fall though is temporary, it has to rise.

If its not perceived as independent, it would lose its capability to signal an exchange rate range

Nothing can protect from free fall in that case
