Can you feel the envelope of the smog in Delhi already ?

Are we condemned to smoke the chimney or can something be done about it ?

What format can environmental activism take in a democracy ? Can it even become a format in indian politics given the myriad identity and urgent issues that cloud the discourse. Is the environmental anymore or has it now become existential ?

Dharamshala is also affected by this pollution, for the first time I am seeing smog here too because of the increased tourism in the area.

The pristine Himalayas are also being affected. Soon, there would be no escape from this soot and smoke. Why are we collectively doing this to ourselves and our children ?

Does anyone here feel something can be done to avoid this ?

Concentrated, unsustainable development has only solution and that is to at the least stop the non sense. It CANNOT be solved at individual level, govt will have to step in. We ll move to apocalypse if we don't stop this.

Which reminds me, when ODD-EVEN failed, did we not do anything to compensate for the problem? We came up with a 'brilliant' plan to implement odd even, well it failed, doesn't that mean come up with a better plan?

Well i have a thought, there has not been any digitalisation in Automobile sector, can we not have small smoke intensity detectors mandatory in every vehicle, and whenever these vehicles cross check points (these can be state borders or popular junctions ) they give the signal as to how less pollution is caused by these vehicles, which can be centrally monitored and thus a fine can be implemented. The device can be compulsory with RTO's so that the new vehicles have that and should be at very pollution check centres so that whenever a vehicle goes for a pollution check the device is installed.

The major chunk of pollution is not due to the number of cars but due to ill management of busses, 3 wheelers and truck's engines. If we control that i assure you most of the problems will be solved.

Reposting this video, am not sure if what this guy is predicting for next 10-12 years would come true, but his arguments are pretty compelling

I do agree to the part where gigafactory with tesla are going to remove fossil driven vehicles. Rather someone in the morning referred to that on awaremonk, in some other discussion.

But I have one thing to add which might be out of context, that disruption cannot be seen going forward, its like connecting the dots, can only be seen looking backwards. So when he says that, that consultancy went wrong by 120 times, I believe anyone would have projected that at that point of time except the innovators and protagonists of modern day mobile phones.

Totally, while travelling yesterday night I asked my co-passenger if its the smoke or fog, he said both.

While there have been a lot of promises and supposed actions by our CM i doubt anything has actually happened. The smoke is the same, as soon as the media picks up the issue people start running after the pollution and as everything else, this also dies eventually.

I wonder what actions have actually been implemented of the ones promised by our CM.
